This wonderfully detailed black and white painting was created by Schelte Adams à Bolswert ca. 1633-1659. The saints are depicted holding open a book that reads "Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam" which is the Latin motto of the Society of Jesus, an order of the Catholic Church. It means "For the greater glory of God."
